Choices

Some say I have a shoe problem. I say I have a variety of shoes for a variety of situations (and if I'm honest also a variety of moods). But I realized the other day that in winter, if I'm not wearing boots, I have one presentable pair of shoes that work in the snow but look decent enough to wear anywhere. I've been wearing them since December and I'm ready for a change in weather so I can have choices again.
Kind of silly, but it made me think about Jesus. One issue the world has with Jesus is that He doesn't give them choices. He says “I'm it. The only way. You're with me or against me.” Humans like options and they want flexibility when seeking salvation. Even Christians, in our sin, can't agree on every detail so we have a variety of church denomination choices.
What choices are you holding on to that keep you from following Jesus in every corner of your life?
People worry that if they follow Jesus they give up choices. But there is no greater freedom than knowing the work is done and you are saved by grace, not by the choices you make.
We can choose our shoes, our music, our work, our worship; but when it matters for salvation, we have to give up our desire for options and our need for control, and lay them at the feet of the only way, the only truth, the only life.
Follow Jesus Lead Your Family
John 14:6 ESV
[6] Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Galatians 5:1 ESV
[1] For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
Acts 4:11-12 ESV
[11] This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. [12] And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
